Let’s say you were trash. No, worse, let’s say you were chemical waste. No, no hazardous waste. Yeah, the particularly nasty stuff. We hope you’re not, but if you were, no one would have any use for you, you’d be a bane on our existence and people would just wish you were never around. So, wouldn’t it be right to be able to come back in your next life as something better? For all us? Well, if you were conscientious hazardous waste and realized you’d done enough damage, you’d pray …

NEWPORT BEACH, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Jul 03, 2009 -- Nearly 24 million Americans, or 7.8 percent of the US population, are afflicted with diabetes, and it's taking its toll. Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness, amputations, kidney failure, nerve damage, cardiovascular disease, and premature death. Although most physicians recommend lifestyle changes for their patients with diabetes, they are also quick to pull out the prescription pad. Julian Whitaker, MD, founder of the Whitaker Wellness Institute, the largest alternative medicine clinic in the US, and author of the best-selling book, Reversing Diabetes, disagrees with this strategy.
Dr. Whitaker, who will be sharing his insights on July 7, 2009, in Orange, CA, at a 7:00 PM public lecture sponsored by Orange County Diabetes Resources Group, says, "Doctors are prescribing two, three, or more drugs to patients in an effort to control blood sugar. Yet only seven percent of patients achieve good control. Furthermore, diabetes medications have serious side effects, including, for some drugs, increased risk of heart attack and death from cardiovascular disease."
It’s a car that’s propelled by compressed air. Scheduled for U.S. release in early 2010, it’s estimated that the car will reach over 90 mph with a range of over 800 miles and get in excess of 100 mpg. It can be “refueled” in a matter of minutes at gas stations equipped with customized air compressor units at a cost of as little as $2. A video of how the engine works is included below.
The parent company, MDI, plans to introduce a 6-seat, 4-door family-size version of the compressed air …

Why it’s Breakthrough: It puts every single penny raised toward helping provide clean drinking water to those in need.
The Story: What would do if you had to drink water that could kill you? What would you do if you had to walk three miles to a muddy river for a drink? What would you do if you were one of the 1.1 Billion people on the planet without access to clean water?
What if you could help?
Charity: water is a non-profit initiative bringing clean water and basic sanitation into impoverished communities. …
Why it’s Breakthrough: For the first time, this robot gives dentists and teeth experts insight into the ways materials helping teeth breakdown.
The Story: Scientists from University of Bristol in England have developed what they call a ‘chewing robot’ that would help in studying dental wear formation on human teeth. Dental elements, such as crowns and bridges, are made from well-known metals, polymers and ceramics but their dental wear properties are often poorly understood. The ‘chewing robot’ that mimics human teeth can help study dental wear and tear more precisely.

Why it’s Breakthrough: It’s a wheelchair that’s controlled entirely by the user’s brain. Thus, even the severely physically disabled can now get around simply by using brain power.
The Story: Toyota has developed a new interface that enables a person to control a wheelchair simply by thinking about which direction to go. The power of brain waves to control machinery is not new, and in fact, is featured on this site. What’s most compelling about this breakthrough, however, is the speed with which these thought-powered commands are executed: nearly instantaneously.
